French farmers staged tractor convoy protests in eastern France, blocking key roads and disrupting traffic to denounce the government’s policy of culling entire cattle herds after single cases of lumpy skin disease, dubbed ‘cow COVID’ in the media.

Demonstrators accused President Emmanuel Macron’s government of “amateurism” and said the policy is financially and emotionally devastating, adding to mounting pressures from rising costs and low farm incomes.

Authorities say mass culling and vaccinations are necessary to stop the spread of the disease, which does not affect humans but threatens livestock production and trade.
