What should have been a celebratory moment for a choir from Taiwan was soured by cross-strait politics at a competition in Tokyo. Nibun Chorus, a Bunun Indigenous singing group from Kaohsiung, was one of three choirs from Taiwan competing in the “folk music” category. However, on the second day of the competition, their national origin was abruptly changed to “Chinese Taipei” due to complaints from China.
