A man fatally stabbed two passengers on a commuter train in Portland after they tried to stop him from harassing two Muslim women. The assailant, Jeremy Joseph Christian, Christian shouted ethnic and religious slurs at the two women, who were wearing a Muslim headscarf. Two of three men who intervened, Ricky John Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, were killed in the incident.
