Corporate Ladder Climbing by Irene Inker ( http://ireneinker.com) from her book "From Rags to Riches".

Some basic points on “Corporate Ladder Climbing for Dummies and Beginners.” Beware of the dangers associated with corporate ladder climbing, including but not limited to the following:
— Slippery steps due to your coworkers spitting and pulling you down by your ankles
— Being pushed down because the step you are on is overcrowded with your competitors
— Falling down due to repeated backstabbing from the colleagues who are standing one step below, on the same step, or one step above you.
They backstab you for the sake of competition, for fun, to keep you on your toes, to push you down just a bit, to push you down just in case, or for whatever other reason they have.
There are no friends in the sport of corporate ladder climbing; this is not a team sport. It is more like survival of the sneakiest. Note the recent change in the rule of thumb to “keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.” This has recently been recently revised for climbers. Keep your friends and enemies equally close as people will swing back and forth from one category to another. It is best not to let any of them out of your sight.
